STRATFORD UPON-AVON

Hi families!

Today we woke up at 8:00 a.m. and we were very tired. At 9:15 we took the bus to go to visit Stratford, the Shakespeare’s birthplace.  We saw the house where he lived, the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Clopton Bridge and the Holy trinity church. We bought a lot of souvenirs for you! 

Afterwards we went to the Star City where we had lunch and we had a surprise! We didn´t know what the surprise was till the leaders told us that we were going to play with laser tags. Everybody was so exciting and it was awesome! We had a very good time! 

Then we had dinner, and now we are writing the blog and we will play a quiz!

DANCING DAY

Hello families,

Today we got up at 8:00 am as everyday. After breakfast, we went to class and we continue to prepare our costumes for the fashion show. We also played tongue twister competition. We had a really good time and we laugh a lot.

At 3:00 we finished the classes and we started to prepare our performance of the Mtv awards. We were split up in groups and each group has to sing and dance a song. Today we start to think the choreography and the diferents characters of the songs.

Now we are writing the blog and tomorrow we will go to Startford Upon-Avon, so tonight we are going to sleep early.

PHOTO SCAVENGER HUNT

Hi families,
Today we woke up at 8:00 as everyday and, after breakfast,  we went to classes to prepare a fashion show that we will represent on Saturday. Some of us started to think about the performance of next week.

After classes we went to the acomodation and we played a Photo Scavenger Hunt. We had different challenges and we had to take a picture of each moment. For example, we had to make a pyramid or mix something Spanish and English in the same picture. We had a really nice time.

When everyone has finished, we went to the sport centre and we divided in four groups and we played ultimate frisbie and basketball. At 5:30 we change, but it started to rain and we had to stop to play frisbie.

After having shower and relax a little bit we went to have dinner and now we are going to finish the film "Big Hero 6".

SWIMMING DAY

Hi families,
Today we woke up at 8:00 am and we went to have breakfast as every day. In class we talked about Shakespeare and some of us did a performance of Romeo a Juliet because on Thursday we will go to Stratford Upon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare.

When we finish classes at 3:00 pm we went to the sport centre and we could choose between swimming pool, badminton or table tennis. We had a really nice time tasting the different sports. At 6:15 we arrive to the acomodation and we had free time to relax and have a shower because we were sweaty. Now we are writing the blog and tonight we will watch the film "Big Hero 6".

It has been a wonderful day!

GOD'S DAY

Dear parents,
Today, we didn't have had breakfast as always.We had breakfast in our kitchens with our flat's mates. We had waffles and milk with Nesquick. At 10:15 am we took the train to go to mass. After that, we took some pictures and walked a little bit around the centre before have lunch.

After have lunch, we went to the Bullring and we had some free time to go shopping. We bought a lot of things and at 5:00 pm we return to the residence and some of us took a shower before have dinner.

Now we are writing the blog, we will finish the film UP and we will read the positive messages that we've put in the pig box.

We miss you a lot.

FISH & CHIPS

Today, in Birmingham, we did a lot of funny things. First of all we had an English breakfast: scramble eggs, bacon and sausages. After that we prepared with our teachers the performance for this afternoon.  After having lunch a sandwich with ham, cheese or chorizo and some salad, we went to the lecture theatre to tell all the TV news to our mates and record it to watch them in other moments (banana's news and swag's news).

Then, we played Fish & Chips, a catalan TV program, which consist in different challenges between two teams like pictionary, stop or spell. It was a really good activity and we enjoyed a lot. Once we finished we had free time to take a shower or play football.
Now we are writting the blog and we will watch UP to finish the day.

We enjoyed a lot today and we had so much fun with all the group.

SKATING DAY

Dear Parents,
Today at 8:45am we had breakfast, later we had only three hours of English class to prepare a presentation of TV News for tomorrow. Between the three hours we had break time like everyday and we played with our friends.

When we finished, we had lunch and quickly we took the bus at 2:00 pm to go skating. We fell down a lot of times and we get wet. But it was funny and took many pictures and videos. Also we taught those who didn't know skate and It was a wonderful experience.

Later we went to the park and we had free time to play football, hula-hops, jumping-ropes and swing. We catched the bus and we went to the residence to have a shower. After that we went to have dinner.

Now we are waiting the blog and we are going to have a special activity.

VISIT TO LONDON

Hi families,

Today was an excellent and wonderful day. we went to London and we had to take the train at 8.15 am. We spend two hours in the train.

When we arrived to Marylebone Station, the metro wasn't available. We had to wait for a bit, but finally we decided to start the walking tour.

The first monument we visited was "Marble Arch". We continued our route through Hyde Park, and we arrived to Buckingham Palace. After that, we walked directly to Big Ben and London Eye, where we had lunch there the packet lunch and some ice-creams and hot dogs we bought.

When we finished, we went to Trafalgar Square and we started our shopping time going to: M&M's Store, Cool Britannia and Hamleys, the oldest toy shop in the world. There we bought a lot of souvenirs like: toys, clothes, magnets, etc.

At the end of the tour, while we were going to the train Station to go back Birmingham, we passed next to Madame Tussaud Museum.

Now we have just had dinner and we are going to play Bingo.

A WORKSHOP DAY

Dear families:
Today we have woken up at eight o'clock in the morning as every day, we have had breakfast later and at 9:15 am we have started English lessons.
In class we've done some maps and then we've been playing some grammatical games. On Saturday we have the presentation of all what we are doing these week at English class, so we are preparing it too.

After having lunch, we have done some workshops divided in groups. These groups are the sports teams, and we've invented the name, the flag and the shout of each one. Also we have painted ours t-shirts' team (blue, green, brown or red) with the name of each team: Potatoes, KK's, Albatros or Stormers. We've played volleyball and dodgeball, and finally we have had dinner.

Now we are writing the blog, and we are going to finish to watch Shrek film.

TRIP TO THE CITY CENTER

Dear families,

Today in the morning we've had breakfast and one English class the first hour. Because after that we've continued our activities outside in the center of Birmingham. We went by train to do a tourist tour there. We visited the most important places in Birmingham, for example: hall of memorial, art museum, symphony hall, mailbox, the secret garden of the Library, the cathedral, the BBC (where we've recorded a TV programme) etc.

After have the lunch in Mc'Donalds, we had some time to go to shopping in the bullring (a shopping center) but we could go also to watch  the film "Minions".
At 5:30 we met all together to come back to the residence. We had dinner and now we are writing this blog, and we'll watch "Shrek".

SWIMMING POOL AND BADMINTON

Hi family,
Today was our first day in BCU and we started the day in the meeting point at 8:30. After breakfast we went to the first class and we met our teachers, Joana, Nailah and Lutfa. We had three ours in the morning and one hour more after lunch.

Once we finish the clases we went to the bus because we went to the sport centre. In the sport centre we had three sports to choose: table tennis, badminton and swimming. We could practice a lot and have fun. After that we played a really fun game outside to wait the bus.

When we arrive to the residence we had some free time to have a shower and relax a little bit before have dinner. Then, we could call the parents and now we are writing the blog. To finish the day we will watch the serie Zach & Cody. And after some free time in our kitchens we will go to sleep.

NOS VAMOS DE VIAJE

Depués de los pequeños retrasos que hemos sufrido en los vuelos de Madrid pero sobretodo de Barcelona y tras unas tres horas de autobús hemos llegado todos bien y animados a Birmingham. Una vez cenados hemos hecho el test para separar en niveles a los alumnos para las clases.

A partir de mañana por parejas escribirán el blog explicando lo que han hecho durante el día. Le animamos a seguir sus actividades y a comentar todo lo que quieran.

A la izquierda iremos subiendo las fotos del día (se mantienen las de días anteriores). Hoy ya están subidas las fotos del viaje.

Un año más, y ya son 51, Idiomas Padre Manyanet, inicia su andadura en los diferentes Cursos de Inglés, con el deseo de que todos los objetivos marcados se hagan realidad para todos los estudiantes inscritos y tengan la plena satisfacción de haber profundizado y ampliado sus conocimientos y su facilidad de expresarse en dicho idioma. Con ello creemos se lleva a cabo nuestro lema: Conocer idiomas, una puerta al mundo.

Deseamos que la estancia en cada uno de los diferentes lugares, sea muy satisfactoria y enriquecedora en todos los aspectos, y que estos blogs sean también un  complemento  y vehículo muy positivo de comunicación entre familias e Institución.

Cerramos un capítulo más, un año más, de nuestros Cursos de Idiomas Padre Manyanet y... ¡ya van 50!

Quiero agradecer desde aquí, la dedicación, la profesionalidad, el interés y el trabajo bien hecho de todos y cada uno de los Directores y Monitores de los Grupos en los diferentes países.

LAST DAY

Dear Parents:

Today we have had three hours of English classes. The two first hours we have been practising our performances because after lunch it would be the premiere, and the third one we had a little party with our teacher. Then we had lunch, we ate the typical food  FISH AND CHIPS! It was a good way to end our last meal.

After lunch we did our performances. Then we received our grates and presents for have finished the English class, but that was not all, each one received a present of the leaders and afterwards David Sanz received an award for been the  best student and to complete the afternoon Mai (English teacher) made a speech to say thank you to everybody.

Finally, we went to the accommodation buildings to put on our best clothes. because this night (the last night) we will have a disco.

ALTON TOWERS!!

Dear families,

Today we woke up earlier and we had breakfast at the kitchen of our flats because at 7:45 we had to catch the coach to go to ALTON TOWERS!

We arrived there at ten o’clock and we entered into the park. After the explanations of the leaders, we started the adventure. We separate in groups to go to roller coasters like Rita, Nemesis, Thirteen, Oblivion or The Smiler, the newest of the park which has 14 loops. At 1:00, we met all in the entrance to see that we were all right, and then we had lunch. Later we could continue the exciting experience until 4:45, when we all met to leave the amusement park.

We arrived at BCU at 7:00 and we had dinner. We are all very tired, so today we are not going to see any film and we are going to go to the bed earlier.

LAST SPORTS DAY

Dear parents,

Today we have had the normally English classes. Then we had lunch, and it was delicious; we ate Hot Dogs! Later we continued the lessons. May and Jamie’s class did a scavenger hunt, and the other classes practiced and prepared the necessary material for the plays we are going to represent on Friday.

Later, we went to change our clothes, and we finished the activities that Antonio had prepared for us last week. We did length jumping, petanque, and relay races. When done, we had free time in the field, and most of the boys play football while the girls were sitting in the grass speaking and gossiping.

After having a shower, we went to the canteen, and now we are going to finish the film Despicable Me 2.

TRAINING HARD!

Dear parents,

Today it was an extremely hard day, especially the afternoon, when we played some sports. But before that, we went to our morning lessons (as you know for three hours) and we had lunch. After, we went to the theatre to watch the videos of the dancing activity made last Thursday in the afternoon, and we decided who the best dance group of BCU’14 is. The winners were Penguins and Crocodiles.

Later we went to the field next to the sport centre, where three trainers came to teach us some sport activities: football, athletics and cricket. We finished very tired because we spend three hours running, kicking, throwing…

Now we are going to see the film Despicable Me 2!

TOURNAMENTS

Dear parents,

Today was a normal day. In the morning we had three hours of classes and after lunch we have another hour of class where we practiced the theatre performance. Some of these performances are Cinderella, The Wizard of Oz, Snow White and Little Red Riding Hood.

In the afternoon we went to the sport center and we played a tournament of tennis, badminton, tennis-table and swimming pool.The winners were;  in tennis-table Pablo Garcia, in tennis was David Sanz, in badminton were Luis Iglesias and Jaime Martínez-Atienza and finally, in swimming pool, Maria Villacorta. After, we went to the canteen to have dinner and now we are going to play a Quiz.

OXFORD!!!

Dear parents,

Today we have visited Oxford. We went by coach. Once in the city, we went to a mass that the priest did specially for us. Later we went to see the Christ Church, where the first film of Harry Potter was recorded. After that, we have seen also the Radcliffe Camera, the Bridge of the Sighs, and the library.

Then we went to have lunch in Mc Donald’s, or in the Burger King. When we finished we had time to go shopping. Most of us bought the Oxford University jumper, and lots of souvenirs for the family and friends. Finally we went to the campus, and we had dinner. Now we are writing the blog, and we are going to finish the film Frozen.

MASTER CHEF

Dear parents,

Today we had a different class because we did a Master Chef of cakes and sandwiches. We divided the group and we went to buy the ingredients on the supermarket with our teachers. After that, we prepared the original cake and sandwich in the canteen. Then we decide a name for both plates, and we made the recipe, which with the ingredients and the points you must follow for make them. The leaders decided the winners. The winner of the most original cake was Maria’s group, and the most original sandwich was Chema’s group.

After lunch we ate the cakes and sandwiches as a dessert, and later we did the presentations of our works during the week. Then we changed our clothes, and we went to the theatre to represent our actuations in the MTV awards. When finished, Gonzalo did a Magic Show. Then we went dinner and now we are going to watch the film Frozen.

2nd SKATING DAY

Dear parents,

Today we had breakfast and after that we went to the first 3 hours of classes, where we practice the presentation that we are going to do on Saturday in order to explain the exercises of this week. Then we went lunch, and after we went to the ice rink. A lot of people fell down, but in general today we have done it better than the first day. Later on, we went to a park where we played football, we jumped the rope, and some of us also met new people from here.

Then we return to the campus and we had dinner; beef, bread, fries and cake. Then we phoned our parents and now we are going to finish the film X-men.

CARBURY WORLD

Hi families!

Today we haven’t had classes because we have visited Cadbury, a very important chocolate factory here near the campus. There we could see how chocolate is made, they told us the history and the importance of the cocoa during the years. We also went to the biggest Cadbury shop in the whole world, so we bought a lot of chocolate.

After we returned to BCU and we ate the lunch in the canteen. Later we did dance classes, when three different teachers show us how to dance contemporary dance, street dance and performance dance.

After having a shower we had dinner and now we are going to start the movie X-men. Today we will see the first part, and tomorrow we are going to finish it.

SPORT GAMES

Dear families,

Today we had the same timetable to the other days, but Mai’s class changed their usually routine because they made cupcakes.

After that we had lunch. Later on, we did a little competition practicing different sport games like sit-ups, military push-ups, the game of the handkerchief, hula-hoop… and we also made a little path with evidences. We finished very tired because we made a lot of effort. After that it started to rain and we went directly to the bedroom to prepare for having dinner.

Later we went to the canteen and now we are going to play BINGO.

LESSONS, MUSIC AND SPORTS

Dear families,

After having breakfast we went to classes for three hours, and afterwards, we had lunch. Then, we had, again, classes.

Later on, we went to the theater to prepare the MTV Awards that is like a talent show of music where we have to sing and imitate a real group. Some of the songs that people will represent are Y.M.C.A, Babie Girl, Wannabe, Counting stars…

At 5:00 we went to the sport centre to play basketball and baseball. After playing with our respective teams (elephants, lions, penguins, eagles. crocodiles or bears) we had a shower.

Then we went to the canteen for dinner, but many of us, we did not like the food: fish with broccoli. Now we are witting the blog while our friends are watching Disney shorts.

PAULA'S DAY

Dear families,

Today we have followed the usual daily routine, at 8:30 get up, having breakfast, and then to classes. After having lunch, we continued with our lessons. Later on, we went to the sport centre where we enjoy practicing some sports like Ping-Pong, tennis, tennis table or swimming pool. During the way there, we saw some students from the University of Birmingham graduating.

We returned to the campus at 6:00 and after we had dinner. Now most of the students are calling their parents, and later we will watch a TV program.

To conclude, we would like mention Paula Perez and wish her a happy birthday, because today she turns thirteen.

VISIT TO B'HAM

Hello, parents

Today we got up at 8:45 am, we had breakfast in

our's flats kitchen with our leaders. They prepared us some waffles, muffins and donuts. After, at 9:50 am we went to the mass at St Chad's Cathedral located in the center of our hosting city. The priest was very nice with us, and some of as took part in the liturgy.

Later we had lunch in McDonald's or Burger King in the groups we made to the London trip. It was delicious! After that, we went to the Bull Ring Center where we bought lots of things. It was our last day of shopping in Birmingham city center.

At 17:15 h we took the train back to Perry Barr station. After that, we had dinner. This time chicken with potatoes. Now, we are watching the final match of the World Cup. We have divided the theater into two parts. One for Germany fans and Argentina fans.

PHOTOS AND VOLLEYBALL

Dear Parents,

Today we had had an especial breakfast because is Saturday, we ate the typical British breakfast. After that, we went to class, like every day, for preparing and practicing our presentations that would take place after lunch. There were four groups, and the presentations were about the newspaper of Birmingham. It was divided in different columns like sports, gossiping, news and weather. Some groups sang a personalized song as “la la la Birmingham” and others.

After that we had a scavenger hunt about photography that consist in making funny pictures, like taking a picture of a pig, a pyramid, a romantic scene… It was really entertaining and we had a lot of fun. Later on, we changed our clothes and we went to the sport centre to play volleyball with our animals team. Some people played very well, and some other learned today how to play, but we all had fun. Finally we went to have a shower and then we had dinner; lasagne and ice cream. Now we are going to continue the film Despicable Me.

SKATING DAY

 

Dear parents,

Today after waking up, and having breakfast, we made the three first hours of class, the once before the having lunch. During these lessons, we had been preparing the surprise we are going to present on Saturday. 

After eating the typical fish and chips, we caught the bus at 2:30 to go to the ice skating rink. It was great, for some people it was their first time, so they were falling all the time. For others with more experience, it was easier. We enjoyed it a lot!

Later, we went to a park which has an enormous green area perfect for playing football, or lying on the grass. Finally, we returned to the campus, and we had dinner.

Right now, we are going to watch the movie Despicable Me.

LONDON!!

Hello parents,

Today we get up at quarter to seven because we went to London! We caught the train for two hours and the underground to go to the city centre. Then, we divided us in three groups with two or three leaders in each one.

First of all, we saw Trafalgar square and then the Buckingham Palace and the changing of the guard. After that, we went to the Big Ben and London Eye, where we had lunch.

At the afternoon we saw the house of the Prime Minister. After walking a lot, we arrived to Covent Garden and later we went to Piccadilly Circus. There we went shopping in a souvenir shop called Cool Britania and in M&M’s shop.

Finally we caught the train and the underground again to go to the campus for having dinner, do the blog…

WORKSHOPS DAY

Dear parents,

Today we woke up as usual at 8:00. Yesterday leaders told us a rule which says that we always have to speak in English when we are inside the campus. Today we had done a big effort, because we had stayed all the day inside the university.

We went class and we finished the newspaper we will present next Saturday. Yesterday, at night, a new leader called Gonzalo came from Madrid. This morning everybody met him. In the afternoon leaders prepared some workshops. Each monitor was in a different flat and there were six activities; one of painting, one of magic, building castles with cards and also one of talents.

At 5:00 we went to the sport centre. We played dodge ball. We were divided in six groups; crocodiles, lions, elephants, bears, eagles and penguins, who is the first position of the ranking.

Today we enjoyed a lot. This night after playing Bingo, we will have to charge energy for tomorrow because we will go to LONDON!

VISITING BIRMINGHAM

Dear Parents,

Today we woke up at 8:00, but some people woke up at 7:00 because they went to run with Antonio, one of the leaders. We had breakfast in the canteen, and then we start the lessons. Today we had had only two hours of class, because we went to Birmingham. 

When we arrived, after taking the train, our leaders and teachers guide us to the most important places in the city; the canals, the BBC, where we could record and present our own weather in the TV, the library and the museum. After that, we went to the Mc Donald’s to have lunch.

In the afternoon, we divided in groups and we went shopping in the Bullring. Many people bought a lot of things; clothes, shoes, souvenirs… Later on, we returned to the campus and we had dinner.

OUR FIRST DAY

Dear families,

This morning we woke up at 8:00, and at 8:30 we were in the canteen having breakfast. Today we have started the English lessons, which start at 9:15 until 12:45. We had two breaks at 10:15 and 11:30. After that, we had lunch, and then we did the last hour of class. The last lesson that we did started at 2:00 and finished at 3:00.

Immediately after, we went to the sports centre. There we could choose to play badminton, tennis, pin-pong, or going to the pool. Later on, we returned to BCU and we had half an hour for talking with our roommates, change our clothes… Then we had dinner, and after that we talked with our parents. Finally, we are writing the blog, while the other students are watching a TV program.

Apreciadas familias:

Bienvenidos al blog de Idiomas Padre Manyanet destinado a los cursillistas de BCU (residencia de Birmingham). La misión de este espacio es informarles de todas las actividades que realizan vuestros hijos. Diariamente, dos o tres alumnos redactarán un breve relato en inglés sobre las actividades realizadas durante el día, y éste será publicado en este blog. La llegada a Birmingham ha ido muy bien. Una vez en la residencia, los chicos han deshecho las maletas y seguidamente hemos ido a cenar. Al finalizar, han realizado las pruebas de nivel con lo que, a partir de mañana, se iniciarán las clases.

“Estudiar idiomas, una puerta al mundo”

Apreciadas familias,

Un año más, y ya son 50, que Idiomas Padre Manyanet hace su andadura. Desde esta ventana de los diferentes blogs, quisiera que mi saludo personal de bienvenida llegara a cada uno de vuestros hogares y a cada uno de los estudiantes que en este 50 Aniversario de nuestra Organización, participan en nuestros Cursos de Idiomas. 

Deseo que el aprovechamiento de este tiempo sea el máximo posible y que la información que, para vosotros los padres, os damos desde cada uno de los blogs, sirva para que tengáis con detalle las actividades que realizan vuestros hijos e hijas, y que también sean un vehículo directo de comunicación.
