3rd JULY - BIRMINGHAM TOUR

Hi! We are going to explain to you how our day was. 

We woke up at eight o’clock and we had breakfast. We had milk with cereals and a toast with jam. After that, we went to the den to have our english class. During the class we prepared a presentation. We talked about ourselves. At 11 o’clock we had a break and we played different games lile “one”, “headbands” and football. After the break we continued with the classes. We recorded some of our presentations and the rest will be done tomorrow. 

For lunch we ate potatoes with tuna and cheese, sausages with tomatoes and fruit (apple) and a cake. 

At 2 o’clock we took a train and we want to the centre o

f the city. There, we did a tour and visit the library, the cathedral, Victoria’s square, the mailbox centre, the BBC and the canals of Birmingham.

After the tour we slip in 3 groups and we did an activity for an hour called scavenger hunt. We had to go to different places with a map and we took pictiures. Also, we asked where the places were. This activity was very funny!!

After that, we returned to the accomodation and we had dinner. We are rice, chicken and salad. For dessert we could choose between icecream and fruit. 

The next thing we did was to call our parents.

Then we went to the field to play baseball. 

Finally we had a shower and had a snack in the kitchen.

We are very tired! Now we are going to go to sleep.

FIRST DAY IN BCU 2018

NEWS FROM BIRMIGHAM!!!!

FIRST DAY: CLASSES & SWIMMIGPOOL (2nd July)

Today it was our first day. We woke up at 8 o’clock and then we had for breakfast chocolate cereals, milk and orange juice.

After that we went to classroom to learn English. The name of the teacher is Jerry, and

she is funny, active and she likes playing games. We could make a break in the middle.

After 3 hours and a half of classes we had lunch. We had some onion bread and chicken and onion burritos, they were good. We could eat some fruit and some chocolate cake as a dessert, we ate both: we had an Apple and the cake and a mandarin and some cake too.

Finally, we had another hour of class to make a poster about our team that is related about presentation that we have to do, for example, our team is Oxford so we do a poster about Oxford. Although this activity was fun, the one that we like the most was the game of the gunman game.

At the afternoon, we went to the swimming pool. We had to walk a lot to get to there but once we arrived we had a good time.

Then we returned to the residence to have dinner, this time we ate fish and chips, pasta, carrots, and salad. We could eat some strawberry ice-cream but we preferred some fruit.

To end the day we changed our clothes to some sports clothes to go to play football to the field, as we play football in our city, we thought that it’s not very big. Then we had a shower, brush your teeth and then we talked a little bit in the kitchen to our friends and now we are going to sleep.

Today it was a tired day but we had fun and we are looking forward what we are going to do tomorrow.

Estimadas familias,

Un año más acaban los campamentos Idiomas Padre Manyanet en BCU.

Han sido tres semanas inolvidables, se han pasado muy rápido y eso que los cursillistas han tenido diferentes sentimientos. No olvidaremos sus primeras caras, todos expectantes y nerviosos esperando cómo íbamos a ser, qué iban a realizar durante tres semanas y si podrían vivir sin sus padres tanto tiempo.

La primera semana fue una semana larga porque se estaban adaptando, pero a medida que se iban conociendo y haciendo nuevas amistades, el tiempo volaba. Tanto fue así que llegamos a nuestro primer viaje, Londres. ¡Qué emoción! Un día estupendo, cultural y fantástico visitando los monumentos y lugares más importantes de la capital inglesa.

La segunda semana voló, literalmente hablando, todas las actividades se nos hacían cortas y cuando nos dábamos cuenta les estábamos mandando a la cama para coger energías para el siguiente día. En esta semana tuvimos dos excursiones, ¿será por qué era la segunda semana? Oxford (tuvimos una guía estupenda que nos enseñó los mejores lugares de la ciudad) y Alton Towers (creo que no hay palabras para explicar un parque de atracciones) Fueron los mejores días del campamento para todos ellos.

Esta última semana, los sentimientos volvían a cambiar, ya no era preocupación ni alegría, sino tristeza porque ya se habían adaptado y no querían marchar. Estaban muy bien adaptados y los nervios empezaban a florecer porque estaban deseando ver a sus padres para contar todo lo vivido.

Por nuestra parte, agradecer la total confianza depositada en nosotros y no queremos decir un adiós, sino un hasta luego. En estas tres semanas hemos podido conocer a fondo a vuestros hijos así como les hemos visto madurar, reír, disfrutar, añorar y muchos sentimientos más que les harán crecer como personas, no nos cabe ninguna duda.

LAST DAY

Today we woke up excited, because it was our last day, and we are looking forward for meeting our families. We dressed up, had breakfast and we walked to the university to do our last hours of english of the summer camp.

During the morning we watched all our presentations which have been doing in the past three weeks. We also played games such as "the wolf", "soup of letters" of Harry Potter, "three in a line"; and we also sang some english songs all together.

We had lunch and we ate a baguette with lettuce, tuna, egg, sweet corn and french fries. Our dessert was fruit and a piece of cake.

Our last hour of class we watched a Harry Potter film called "Goblet of fire". Mo, our teacher, gave us a diploma and he said goodbye to us very touched.

Then, we finished preparing our Harry Potter party and we went to the Syndicate. It was time for our activities' gifts. The leaders gave a Rugby ball for the team that won the sports games, then a cooking spoon for the winners of Masterchef. The ones that won the MTV were gifted with cool headphones and the winners of "Factory of challenge" got a "Selfie-stick". The leaders also made a collage with all the photos we took in the scavenger hunt "find the bear". After that they gave us an envelope with a photo and a personal message for every one of us. We loved that texts, they were very nice!!

In the afternoon we came back to the accommodation, we finished our luggage, we took a shower and we dressed up for tonight's party.

Then, we returned to the university and we continued watching the Harry Potter film.

Later, we had dinner (roast beef with potatoes and peas, gravy sauce, fruit and a piece of cake).

At night we did an amazing party, where we danced all together all kind of music. To say goodbye, we sang "We are the world" from Michael Jackson. 

After that we came back to the accommodation and we took a shower. Today we are going to go to sleep a little bit earlier because tomorrow we are catching the plane to Barcelona.

TAKE A PICTURE

Good evening families,

Today we woke up at 8 o´clock like every day and we had our breakfast.

We went to the university and we had class. Today we prepared presentations about our experiences during the three weeks which we spent in Birmingham.

Then, we had lunch (chicken with potatoes and salad, fruit and brownie)

After lunch, we continued the class and we presented to our colleges our presentations. We were a little bit nervous but we did very well. When we finished the class, we started to prepare our Party. We chose a topic "Harry Potter" and we prepared main characters´ masks and posters with the heraldry shield of the different houses.

At 5 o´clock we went to the accomodation to play our last scavenger hunt. We had to take pictures about different places where we lived and some funny moments.

At 7 o´clock we went back to the university for having dinner (lamb hotpot, vegetables, fruit and chocolate icecream with maltesers)

Finally, we returned to the accomodation, started to packing,
took a shower and went to sleep.

What amazing day!!!

FIND THE BEAR

We woke up at 8:00 o'clock as usually, we dressed up and we had breakfast.

We started our class at 9. First, we presented our advertisements about chocolate. Then we saw the film Romeo and Juliet (but the kids version). After that, our teacher Mo explained what we were going to do during our last days of class: a presentation about our experience in Birmingham City University (BCU).

We had lunch and we ate an eggplant lasagne, a potatoe croquette, a garlic bread and fruit. We could also eat a cake with seeds.

After lunch, we returned to the class and started our new project. At 3 o´clock we caught the train and we went shopping in Bullring. We could shop for an hour and, after that, we made an Scavenger Hunt "Find the bear".

Our leaders gave us photographs about different bears´sculptures that were located in different parts of downtown. Our purpose was to find them and take "selfie photos" with them. We were divided in three groups: the first group found two bears, the second one twelve and the third founded sixteen.

We came back to our university for having dinner (rice and chicken, salad, chinese bread and strawberry with brownie)

Then, we played baseball in the field next to the accomodation and we finished playing a battle water. Finally, we took a shower, ate a snack, talked for a while in the kitchen.

CADBURY WORLD!!

Today we woke up like every day, at 8 o’clock. Then we dressed up and we had breakfast. After that we walked to our university to have classes.

During the class we talked about chocolate, Cadbury and how its chocolate is made. Our teacher taught us how to make an advertisement. Our Project today was to make one of them, for example a video or a poster. We had to invent a new Cadbury’s product. We finished our class a little bit earlier than usual, because we had a trip to Cadbury.

At 12 o’clock we cached the train and we arrived in our destination at 1 pm. Before going inside the museum we had lunch (sandwich, crisps, a chocolate bar and a fruit). After lunch we entered inside and we began with our Cadbury’s experience.  

Firstly, we saw the cocoa beans and very realistic statues in a jungle environment. Secondly we saw a video about the founders, two brothers called Benjamin and John. We learnt that John’s son, Jorge was the one who created Bournville, the village that had the accommodation of all Cadbury’s workers. Then, they told us how they make the chocolate. While we were watching the video, the benches moved at the same time of the machines. To continue we took a photo, on we looked like we were surfing on a chocolate bar. After that, we went into a ride that consisted on a car that followed a route. There, we saw the cocoa in the different seasons of the year. Then we bought our chocolate bars in the biggest chocolate shop that we have ever seen. To finish our visit, we watched a 4D film. We had a lot of fun!!!

At 5 pm we took the train to come back to the accommodation. When we arrived we had time to practice our performance for “MTV show”.

Later, we went back to the university to have dinner (lamb, potatoes, salad, fruit and a chocolate mousse).

After dinner we did the MTV show, with all our performances. We saw dancers, singers and magicians. We enjoyed the actuations a lot.

We finished the day with our daily routine: we took a shower when we arrived at the accommodation, we did the prayer and talked for a while in the kitchen while we were having our night-snack.

ROAD TO OUR LAST WEEK!!!!

Today, we woke up at 8 o'clock, we dressed up and we had breakfast. After that, we walked to the university to meet our new teacher Mou. 

He is very nice and clever, and he likes playing tennis, swimming and horse riding. We started the class with a "Simon says" game. Then he explained our timetable of this week and we learnt how to make chocolate and its origins. With all this information we made a project consisting in a presentation of different aspects of Cadbury. We are very excited about our trip tomorrow!! 

During the break we played "the wolf" and we ate some chocolate cookies. After that we continued our projects. 

At lunch time we ate chicken burger with chips, salad, fruit and a typical english pastry. 

To continue, we had our last hour of class of the day. We spent this time doing our presentations, and Mou gave us a short feedback. 

During the afternoon we went to the swimming pool, where we played some games such as "Marco Polo" and "the tenant". 

Later we took the train and went to the supermarket. There we bought the dinner for tomorrow's trip, and some food and drinks we needed for breakfast. 

Then we came back to the university and we had dinner (beef pie which was beef with potatoes, pies and sauce; we ate also salad, fruit and cake).

We returned to the accommodation to play some funny games that our leaders had prepared to us. 

We took a shower and we ate our night snack. Now we are preparing our performances for tomorrow night because we have "got talent"!!!

CULTURE & LEISURE TIME

Today, fortunately, we woke up at 9 o'clock and we had breakfast. At 10 am we caught the train to go to the mass. 

We were there from 11 to 12, and two of us could bring offerings (the bread and the wine) to the priest. 

After the mass we went to the Art museum of Birmingham. There we could see the History of Birmingham, ancient greece, ancient Japan, Egypt culture and a quizz about survival.

After that we had lunch in McDonals. We ate burgers and french fries, and we drank fizzy drinks.

During the afternoon our leaders gave us free time to go shopping in the Bullring. We bought in shops like Levi's, Topshop, Forever 21, Jack Wills, River Island, Boots, Burton... and we had a small snack in Starbucks all together. 

At 6 o'clock we returned to Birmingham's central station to go to our University. There we had dinner at 7 (chicken, vegetables, sausages with bacon, fruit and a delicious ice-cream with a chocolate cookie).

After dinner we had a parchis and chess competition. Then we took a shower and we met in the kitchen to have a snack. We ate a small chocolate bar and we played and talked for a while.

Now we are going to go to sleep because tomorrow we have class.

We enjoyed the day!!

ALTON TOWERS!!!

Today we woke up at 7:00 am, we dressed up and we took all our food we were going to eat during the day. After that we caught a train to go to Birmingham city center.

We had breakfast (Nutella sandwich or ham sandwich with a juice) while we were waiting the groups of Leamington and Birmingham families. We joined them and we took a bus to go to Alton Towers.

When we arrived we did different groups and went to the riders. The rollercoasters were amazing!!

We had lunch at more or less 13:00h (Spanish omelet, croissant with ham and cheese, crisps and a KitKat). After lunch we continued riding rollercoasters until 5 pm.

Then, we joined with all the groups of the different summer camps and we returned to Birmingham by bus.

When we arrived we had dinner (rice with sauce that contained cream, mushrooms and beef, a piece of fruit and yoghurt).

Finally, we walked to the accommodation and we did our night activity. Today was about guessing the lyrics of some famous songs.

At night, we took a shower, put our pyjamas on and talked about tomorrow. Good night!

MASTER CHEF & NÚRIA´S BIRTHDAY

On Friday 14th it was Nuria´s birthday. So, when woke up at 8:00 and we went to the kitchen quickly to give her presents.  We hope she enjoyed them.

After, we went to have the last class with our teacher Jerry because she´s going on holidays. Then we did our expositions about different countries such as Japan, Mexico, USA, Italia. To continue we did posters to show two things we have learnt during these two weeks.

Then, we had lunch (salad, hot dogs and chips, cookies, fruit) When we finished our lunch, we returned to class and we watched videos about Master Chef Australia. Jerry gave us some fantastic books and that´s one of the reasons we are going to remember her forever (Thank you Jerry!!!)

During the afternoon, the leaders divided us into two teams because we are going to create our own dish. We had to make something typical about England. Firstly, we wrote the recipe. Secondly, we went to the shopping center and we bought the ingredients. Our challenge was to spend less than ten pounds. Then, we had 90 minutes for cooking our dish. When we finished, we presented to the leaders (mango´s team made “The Hogwarts Express” - train. And pink ladies was a bullring and library) We took a picture and ate them.

Later, we had dinner (salad, fish and chips, yoghurt, fruit). When we finished, it was time for a quizz. We were divided into three groups and we answered different topics (students, leaders, BCU, English food, UK´s history and our timetable)

At the end of the day, we went to the accommodation to take a shower. We put the pyjama on and we did the prayer. Finally, we prepared our breakfast for tomorrow and we ate a cake from Nuria´s birthday and we went to sleep.

TRIP TO OXFORD

Today we woke up at 7:30 because we went to... Oxford!!! We dressed up and we went to the train station to go to Birmingham City Center. While we were eating for the train, we had breakfast. In the train they gave us our mobile phones.

Approximately, we arrived at 10:15 and we went to Oxford´s center to visit the Christ Church College, Radcliffe Square, St. Mary the Virgin, Sheldon Theatre, Bodleian library (we saw a lot of books)

When we finished the visit, we went to KFC for having lunch (mmmm, it was delicious!!!). Then, we visited the Covered Market (there were a lot of small shops and we bought a handmade cookie, yummy!!!

Then, we had some free time in Cornmarket Street to go shopping. We bought a lot of things like the typical Oxford jumper and other souvenirs. We caught the train at 17:00 to go back to Birmingham.

At 19:00 we had dinner (curry chicken, salad, rice, fruit and brownie with strawberry ice cream) After dinner, we played bingo and we obtained sweet regards.

Finally, we arrived to the accomodation, we took a shower, had the prayer with Father Sorribes and we talked for a while in the kitchen all together before going to sleep.

CINEMA & NOEMÍ´S BIRTHDAY

Today we woke up at eight o´clock in the morning, we dressed up and had breakfast like every day that we spent here. Today, it was Noemí´s Birthday so we did something special: we sang "Happy Birthday" and we gave her some presents to her.

We walked to class and learnt adjectives and verbs related to food that can be used for cooking.

After, we had lunch (pasta, salad, fruit and cake) Then, we returned to the class and we played a game or a murderer.

During the afternoon, we took the train to go to the cinema in Birmingham City Center to watch Spider-man. While we were walking to the cinema, we saw a group of three young people dancing break dance in the street.

Before starting the movie, we bought pop corns and fizzy drinks (yummy!!!) The sound of the film was very loud and some of us were surprised about this.

When the film finished, we came back to have dinner. We ate chicken hamburger, potatoes, salad and fruit. To continue we did a wide range of activities such as takeover the witness, jogging, triple jump rope jump and sack races.

Later, we took a shower and we talk about the trip of tomorrow, Oxford. The leaders prepared a chocolate birthday cake to Noemí with candles for blowing out.

We are so excited about buying our Oxford jumpers.

It was such as beautiful day!!!

ICE SKATING

Today, like everyday, we woke up at 8:00 o´clock and we had breakfast. Then, as always, we went to the University to have classes.

We finished our city presentations at 10 o´clock and then we played till 12:30 pm.

Later, we had lunch, it was totally different and delicious. We ate Subway´s sandwiches.

We dropped on a minibus to go to Ice-skating and we enjoyed a lot. Some of us fell down sometimes, but we were very happy and everyone is ok. Later, we went back to the accomodation because it was raining. Instead of doing athletics, we did a parchisse competition, it was great!!!

At 19:00 pm, we went back to the university to have dinner (fish and chips... delicious!!!! and the dessert was cheesecake - the best one that we have ever tasted)

After dinner, we called our parents and we prepared dirty clothes. We went to the laundry and washed everything.

Finally, we had a shower and we went to sleep.

What a super day!!!

SPORTS DAY

Today we woke up at 8:00 and we had breakfast, like always. Then, we went to class.

This week we are going to learn about food around the world and we are doing projects in pairs about one country and its typical things like monuments, food and more.

We had lunch (quiche lorraine, salad, potatoes, peas, watermelon) After lunch, we came back to class to continue working our projects. Finally, we wrote a postcard to our parents explaining what are we doing this week.

We walked to the train station to take the train to go to the swimming pool. We spent an hour. When we finished, we came back to the university to have dinner (we ate roasted chicken with salad and french fries, the fruit was peach, pear or apple)

At the end of the day, we returned to the accomodation and we played football (Orange team vs Green team) The Green Team won but we all enjoyed the game so much!

Then, we took a shower, put the pijamas on and we were in the kitchen playing games while the leaders gave us a snack.

It was an awesome day!!!

MASS & SHOPPING DAY

Today we woke up at 9:00 because yesterday we were very tired. We dressed up and had breakfast.

We went to the train station. Meanwhile we were waiting to the train, we played games and explained riddles.

We went to the Church (St. Chad´s  Cathedral) The mass was interesting and we were very impressed that they sang a lot.

Later, we went to Burger King to have lunch (nuggets, hamburgers with crisps and fizzy drinks).

After lunch, we had free time in the Bullring center for shopping. There were incredible shops that aren´t in the typical shopping centres in Spain like: Top Shop, Pink, River Island... Then, we returned to the university to have dinner (meatballs with rice, salad, fruit and fresh fruit platter).
Finally, we came back to the accommodation, where we took a shower. We put the pyjamas on, did the prayer and watched Netflix on the computer.

TRIP TO LONDON!

Today we woke up at 6 o'clock to take a train to London. In the train we called our families and we had breakfast (sandwich with Nutella, napolitana and juice). We also played table games.

When we arrived to London we visited Covent Garden, it was amazing!! There were a lot of shops and restaurants. The father Jesus explained us the history of each monument; for example, he told us that Covent Garden had been a jumble sale, the people went there to sell their raw materials, vegetables or farm butchers.

After the Covent Garden we went to the British Museum. There we watched Egypt samples like mummies or their ancient scripture.

Then, we took the underground to go to the Tower of London and we had lunch. We ate the wraps and the rice we prepared yesterday and an apple. Before, the Tower of London was a prison, but now is just an old monument. Inside the tower there are crowns without wings, so they won't be able to scape. The legend says that if the crowns disappear, all the population will die.

When we finished our lunch we went to the Tower Bridge. We crossed the river Thames and we saw a lot of boats.

To continue our visit we saw the Big Ben and the Parlament of London. After that, we walked to Picadilly Circus. There we saw a big festival and we could entered to a big M&Ms store. The leaders gave us time to visit the store.

Then, we went to a big shop were we could buy souvenirs and to a 7-floor toy-store called Hamleys. When we finished buying, we returned to the main London train station by underground. Then, we took a train to Birmingham.

When we arrived we went to our University to have dinner (salad, lamb with vegetables and fruit or ice-cream) . After dinner we came back to the accommodation and we took a shower, we put our pyjamas and watch a serie.

It was a fantastic day!!! But now we are all so tired! Good night
